CBD For Dogs: All You Need To Know

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp plant. Unlike its sister cannabinoid THC, CBD For Dogs With Cancer does not have psychoactive properties meaning that it doesn’t get the dog high and it won’t interfere with any medications you may already be taking. As more people become aware of CBD’s potential to relieve their pain and general suffering, there are a growing number of studies into how it could help dogs too.

What is CBD?

CBD is a natural compound found in the cannabis plant, usually coupled with THC for recreational purposes. Hemp has been bred to contain little-to-no THC (up to 0.3%) meaning it doesn’t get you high and is safe for consumption. CBD is a cannabinoid that can be extracted from both THC-rich and THC-free hemp.

What does it do?

CBD interacts with the body’s ECS (Endocannabinoid System) and is able to influence a wide range of physiological processes. The body produces its own natural cannabinoids which are used for nerve regulation, pain management, mood, motor control and more. CBD can also interact with these receptors to provide relief from chronic pain or inflammation.

What are the health benefits of CBD?

CBD is non-psychoactive meaning it won’t get you high, but can be used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation in your pet. Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen are notorious for causing stomach upset and other uncomfortable side effects so CBD has been used in both dog and human patients to reduce these symptoms.

CBD has also been shown to be effective at countering the effects of stress and anxiety, providing a sense of calmness or relief from constant worry. This could help your pet during a stressful situation like being examined by a vet, training classes or boarding. In addition to the above benefits, CBD has also been found to help with:

-Frequent epileptic seizure disorders

-Autism in dogs and other animal species.

-Inflammation and joint pain.

As well as helping pets deal with pain and stress, CBD is being shown to help with a range of other conditions that affect your pet including cancer, epilepsy, arthritis and many more. This means that CBD could be used as an effective treatment for a wide range of serious illnesses as well as providing some general well-being benefits.

How do I give my pet CBD?

There are a variety of hemp-based products available that provide your pet with CBD. Products containing CBD can be given orally or via a sublingual (under the tongue) route. It is important to note that these products will not work with an oil-based formulation so you should avoid any oils or balms when using these products. Some CBD-rich products also contain tinctures which you can drop under your dog’s tongue then wait for it to dissolve before swallowing. This is thought to be less effective than sublingual methods so we recommend sticking with the oral routes if possible.
